Description
A shuttering carpenter (also called a formwork carpenter) is a construction specialist who builds and assembles molds—known as formwork or shuttering—into which concrete is poured. These molds hold the concrete in the desired shape until it sets and gains enough strength to support itself.
Responsibilities
- Reading and interpreting construction drawings Understanding formwork plans to determine dimensions
- shapes
- and materials needed.
- Building formwork Using timber
- plywood
- steel
- or plastic to create molds for concrete structures like columns
- beams
- slabs
- walls
- and foundations.
- Assembling and aligning shuttering Ensuring molds are correctly positioned
- level
- plumb
- and stable before pouring concrete.
- Stripping formwork Carefully dismantling shuttering after the concrete has cured without damaging the structure.
- Maintenance of tools and materials Keeping tools in good condition and ensuring formwork materials can be reused where possible.

- Formwork Construction Blueprint Reading Measurement & Layout Fixing & Bracing Slope & Level Checking Working at Heights Adherence to Safety Standards Attention to Detail Problem-Solving Experience with Climbing Formwork
